With out a doubt and with no hesitation I boldly declare that this is *BY FAR* the best beer Mark (brewer-Swashbuckler) has EVER put out!!!
Appearance: Very murky rusty dark orange color that is too clouded to see though because of all the glorious tasty yeast and protein 'sediment' floating in the beer.
Smell: Fruity apples malt caramel and vanilla cream fill the nose along with a solid American oak presence that is truly enticing.
Taste: It is a beautifully fruity apple vanilla cream flavor with that is well rounded and lip-smackingly dry on the edges. There are caramel malts, a hint of smokiness, and the oak barrel flavor throughout the flavor. The yeast adds many dimensions of yeast and bread flavors too complicated to separate but blended together in a beer that is certainly simple to drink. MMM MM MMM MM MMMM! yummy!
Mouthfeel: This beer has so much more body compared to the regular keg version of the beer that is it ridiculous to think they are even in the same league. this beer the Oak Barrel Oktoberfest has a chewy yeasty body that is malty and smooth but contains some coarseness or sediment grit, give the beer a "full meal" type feel.
Drinkability: Admittedly this beer is more meal than beverage compared to it's counter part the plain keg-ed version, and in as much it is less sessionable. That said, I would rather drink this beer any day of the week over the plain O-fest version.
Hope this is helpful!
Cheers!
