Danny Boy was a winning surprise of this past season.
Dunkelweizen is one of my favorite styles and Danny Boy is a great tribute to it.
The color is the hazy nut-brown typical to this style. The head is thick and crisp and lingers.
The aroma is wheaty, caramel sweet, estery, and lightly spicy from the hops.
Danny Boy delivers on the flavor with a dense wheat flavor left citrusy from the hops and sweetened with a light chocolate taste and earthiness by the malt. It is an overall refreshing and light experience despite it being a bit on the dense side.
The mouthfeel is smooth but light at the same time: refreshing in the tradition of the hefeweizen. This is a very drinkable beer with moderate alcohol and excellent balance.

Served on tap at the PA Renaissance Faire.
Pours a murky hazlenut brown with a thin head of creamy light tan foam. Retains around the edges and with some thin wisps across the center that leaves some good lacing behind. The aroma is a nice mix of bread, caramel, yeast, bananas, citrus, and spices.
I was pleased to find that the taste was a little more defined than the aroma, with notes of banana, clove, cinnamon, a splash of orange, all on top of a solid malt base of wheat, bread, and caramel. There is also a sturdy tingle of hop bitterness that runs through the taste profile. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a sharp carbonation and an overall fairly crisp feel.
Decent take on a Dunkelweizen by Swashbuckler and I'm glad to see them getting more Wheat Beers on the taps at the Faire. I'm looking forward to seeing what's up next.
