Brown in hue with a tan-tawny highlight, good clarity, it was served with a fingers worth of beige head, very bubbly. The head quickly faded to a tight little cap, this lasted awhile. There was no subsequent lacing. I felt it was served a bit too cold to enjoy the nose to the maximum. The aromas I could detect were decent with toasty, nutty, and malty notes upfront. Underneath is a vague yet crisp American hop note. Modest potency. I still found it inviting, even if I had to work for it. For my taste, the palate was too hoppy for a Brown Ale. Plus maltiness was thin, weak, and not very tasty. There wasnt much flavor depth; it could have used some caramel and little toastiness. It does have some nuttiness and this aspect is nice but the bitter yet (oddly) bland hops drowned it out. I love Brown Ales but this one doesnt cut it. It is too simplistic and one-dimensional. The carbonation is modest, the body is medium, and the mouthfeel is a little firm and uneventful. It is drinkable; if you like traditional Browns like myself then you might not dig this either. If you want an Americanized version, enjoy.
