Another new beer from my former local brewpub (which I will always remember as Calhoun's); sampled in January '09. From a two liter growler, it pours black with crimson edges, and is topped with a big, fluffy head that leaves some nice lacing. Steely dark malts in the nose, with a dash of cocoa powder. Light coffee flavor on the palate, with roasted and chocolate malts, floral/minty hops, a nice sweetness, and a mild bitterness that pushes to medium. Maybe a touch of sourness as well. The body is lightish, with medium carbonation and a light linger. This is a tasty porter that, while not incredibly chocolatey, is very easy to drink. Another winner from Calhoun's.
