From a two liter growler, fresh from my former local brewpub; 25 IBUs. Sampled mid April this year. Pours deep auburn, crystal-clear, with high carbonation that stirs up a half-inch of khaki head that leaves lots of lacing. Rich and toasty Munich malt dominates the nostrils, but soon come notes of hops and a mildly-aged musty/vinous character - I wonder how long they lagered before tapping this one. The palate is loaded with Munich malt, backed by a hint of darker malts, a light sweetness, and floral/spicy, almost minty hops that impart a mild bitterness. On the lighter side when cold, but becomes smooth and silky as the temperature rises and the carbonation drops, then finishes lightly dry. Tasty beverage here - it manages to curtail the sweetness so often found it dopplebocks and is low enough in ABV (for the style) to have a few in a row. Also a bit hoppier than normal, which may take it just outside style parameters, but this is a very delicious and drinkable brew. Another winner from Calhoun's.
