This beer pours a nice brown color. The head is minimal, but what is there is slightly off white.
The nose is really rich and boozy smelling from the rye barrels. I get a slight hint of raisin in it. Slight sweet component.
Taste - Is very rich, and smooth tasting. I'd say molasses. Some raisin in it. Some dates.
Smooth mouthfeel, full bodied. A bit of carbonation on my tongue. No alcohol burn, just smooth. Almost too easy to drink.
Just a stellar beer. Smooth, easy drinking, and packed with flavor.

still incredibly intensely alcoholic, but i thought this was a little better put together than the brandy barrel one they did last year. i mean, this is a really strong base beer, barleywine-esque, with a ton of rich sweet malt depth, body, and layers. i get a bit more of the belgian yeast in this one as the rye is very distinct, i think some of the cherry and brandy fruitiness blocked out a little of the yeast character in the last one, but the rye here is so different that the yeast can be appreciated a little more, herbs and spices and a bit of dried fruitiness, raisin and apple come to mind. tons of oak from the rye barrels, and the actual spiciness of the rye itself, a really neat element with the yeast, although i do think it makes the booze a little more burny and hot. a toasted coconut note here from the oak and barrel char, a lot of residual sugar playing that up, and a whole wash of fusel alcohol at the end, this never really finishes it just slowly fades away. its downright intense when it warms up even a little bit, but i think this is a much more refined beer than it was in the brandy barrels. i love how forward the rye is! very nicely done overall. definitely a winter beer, and definitely one to share!

Love the deep red color and the tiny bubbles. Didn't have much head at all. Smell is rich molasses and very strong. Maybe some fruit hidden in there. The molasses is strong in this one. I don't get any rye but the molasses stays on the palate. It's strong and the alcohol (12.5%) is well hidden. Mouthfeel is good. You really don't get the beer feel until the molasses kicks in. Overall this is only slightly better than the usual DNR because I like the strong molasses in this beer. When I find these again I will buy them. They will age well I'm sure. Good job Coop. Horny Toads Forever. Poured into snifter from a 12.7 ounce (375ml) bottle.

Pours a murky brown with a minimal head that disappears quickly. Aroma is malty and rye, some fig and date and dark fruit, kinda reminds me of a quad, really. Taste is similar to the aroma, malty sweetness and rye whiskey being the main tastes. There is a lot of barrel presence in the taste, and it is great. Mouthfeel is good, I was worried about it being too thin. Overall, this is surprisingly delicious and definitely worth trying, especially considering that I found DNR to be forgettable.
