Received from @jdell15 in NBS BIF #9. Reviewed 4/28/19. Thanks Jacob!
Undated (Other than MMXVII) 12.7oz cork and cage bottle. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 46 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 57.
Appearance – 3.5.
Body – Dark brown, muddy and opaque.
Head – None ever forms.
Lacing – None. Not surprising – barrel aged and 12.6% ABV.
First pour – Initially the pour is amber and clear but by the end has become muddy.
Aroma – 4.25. The aroma is “dark fruit” and caramel
Flavor – 4 - The first sip: sweet, “dark fruit”, caramel, some complex alcohol flavor and bite (but no ethanol) and just an ephemeral ester or two. Only a slight gastric warming occurs. No alcohol (12.6 % ABV!), no dimethylsulfide, no diacetyl. As the temperature reached 57 degrees, the ethanol became evident, as did gastric burning.
Palate – 3.5 - Medium, almost creamy, soft carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 4 – Drinking this blind, this was very good. However, now that I know it’s supposed to be aged in rye barrels; I can grieve to absence of rye characteristics. It’s still very good, just lacking the rye barrels.

Pours a cloudy deep amber color with a thin foamy head. Head retention is virtually non-existent. Lacing is mild. Aroma of candied sugar, caramel, Belgian yeasts, rye and bourbon. Boozy taste with candied sugar, caramel, strong rye and slight bourbon. Very smooth. Medium to heavy bodied. Alcohol burn on the way down. Low carbonation.

Pours a very effervescent and hazed brwon with sliver of fast dropping beige head. No head retention or lacing
S: Barrel & dark fruit; figs & dark cherry
T: Follows the nose, vanilla, then leafy & woody hops. More figs, dates & a little dried cherry & just a hint of Rye barrel & much dryness as this warms, a little butter rum, some coarse barrel , all working in harmony. Finishes, oaky, with plenty of barrel, figs & dryness
MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, warming
Great take on the style, Coop needs to bring this back every year! Drinks easy despite the complexity & ABV
