After one sip of this beer I knew that it is definitely contract brewed by the Lion Brewery in Wilkes-Barre. Don't let the "New York Hometown" stuff fool you. Anyone who has had a Lionshead, or in my case about 10000 Lionshead, can tell you this is the house yeast from that brewery, and they love their contract brewing. With that said, Lion is the brewery that temporarily ruined the Penn Brewery's line of beers, but they're not all bad. For the price they put out some solid products (the Stegmaier stuff is decent and Lionshead is 10 bucks a case).

New York Lager has a copper colored body and a small, fizzy, white head that disappears pretty quickly without leaving any lacing behind.

The aroma and the flavor consist of a light, fruity, apple character that is the calling card of the lion yeast. Some light malts add a bit of caramel flavor. The finish has just a hint of metallic hops. Fairly bland, easy drinking, not bad overall.

The mouthfeel is light and fizzy; not much going on there.

You COULD drink a lot of these, but would you want to? Probably not.

Clear copper-red with a weak head. Very fizzy. Nose is kinda oaky fruity - definitely odd and unexpected. Somewhat woody flavour with apple, caramel and high level of sweetness. Body is watery and has a bit too much astringency. Not very bitter and noticeable alcohol booziness. Not sure that I like this, but it certainly is different,

Appearance: Clear brown. Decent 1" head after the pour that dissepates quickly. Leaves decent lacing on the glass
Smell: Pungent. Some malt notes, but not very pleasant.
Taste: Decent sweet malts. Caramel, some dried fruit.
Mouthfeel: Little carbonation. Thin, watery, etc...
Drinkability: Easy to drink, and would be good for a session.
Not bad, but lacks depth. This would be a good beer to drink in a bar, but not one I would want to savor. Basic.

The beer pours a dark amber/red color with a thin offwhite head that fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a dry pilsner malt scent along with a nice caramel sweetness. There is little hop aroma. The taste is decent. It has a smooth, malty flavor that boasts of caramel malts. It goes down easy with a dry, watery finish. The mouthfeel is average. It is a low/medium bodied beer with good carbonation. This is an easy drinking red lager with little in the way of complexity or mouthfeel.

Hometown's New York Lager pours a clear, deep amber/copper body with golden highlights. It's topped by a short head of white that fades shortly leaving behind some spotty and streaky lacing.

The aroma displays a soft fruitiness (apple, some light apricot) that mingles with delicate caramel.

The flavor is delicate, and expresses the same fruit and mildly caramelish malt found in the nose. (Perhaps they've used some Vienna malt?). The bitterness is kept to a minimum, and although it's not sweet (it's actually nicely balanced), there is a suggestion of sweetness. Some spicy hops balance it, and it finishes mostly dry with some residual fruitiness, hoppy spice, and light malt.

In the mouth, it's crisp and smooth with a medium-light body and fine-bubbled, median carbonation.

Interesting. It's kind of like an American lager with an edge of caramel thrown in (like Yuengling Traditional Lager but smoother), or even a Vienna lager, but with a limited body and malt character. It's easily approachable, and there's just enough character to raise an eyebrow.
