Poured a clear dark black and brown. A nice sticky off white head with good lacing.
The smell was very light with some roasted barley and a bit of pine.
The flavor is very roasty, with chocolate and smoke at almost stout levels, the hops are only really present in the finish with a big blast of juniper piney bitterness.
The mouthfeel is nicely full and resiny.
This beer is good, I like the way they have not backed away from. Just using carafa for coloring and you actually get some nice roasty flavors, where it falls short is in the lack of late ho additions and dry hopping. Its a big dry hop away from being great.
