L- Quite golden chestnut, very pale tan fine-bubble head.
S- Prominent malty nose, and you can smell it's packing a solid ABV% too.
T- Very much of the Trappist/dunkel style, meaty, puddingy, slightly toasty, hints of roast fruit (incl. cherries etc).
F- Well carbonated in the mouth (the now 1/2-cover of foam is still holding too), punchy taste yet it still seems refreshing as there is a mild zestiness to it too.
O- Fascinating, I'd never have thought a beer as different and high quality as this was brewed on the Isle of Wight - yes I know, preconceptions fully punctured!
A friend who visisted the abbey bought this for me. He says it's 'available from the abbey shop, but can also be found at other nearby touristy shops at a marginally higher price'. Ingredients are ingredients are unusual in that they include one I'm unfamiliar with 'Sweet gale'. The bottle also sports the logos for a few recent 'SIBA' [Society of Independent Brewers] competition awards.
BB: Dec-2020 330ml bottle.
