Having this on-tap at the brewpub in North Olmsted. Served in a 12 oz snifter. This beer draws a clear, medium to dark amber/copper color with ruby highlights around the edges when the light hits it. Has a white head that’s half an inch or so thick when first drawn and served that settles to a thick ring lining the inside of the glass. Some light cluster swirls of foam can be found on the beer’s surface, along with some decent lacing. Aromas of big toasted, bready caramel malt sweetness along with some toffee and a slight hint of chocolate. The taste is pretty much the same. Big toasted, bready and caramel malt sweetness that’s followed by toffee and a little bit of chocolate along with a light floral hop presence. Spot on for the style flavorwise. Has a crisp, yet smooth and slightly creamy, also slightly syrupy, full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish, and those roasted, sweet malt flavors really like to linger for awhile on my palate after each sip. A very good beer here.

On tap at FatHeads

LOOK: Pours dark brown with a tan head that laces the glass well. Retention is strong and the overall appearance suits the style.

SMELL: Aroma of Scottish style malting, with peat smoke, caramel, whiskey and toffee.

TASTE: More of the peat smoked malts giving it the taste of a scotch or whiskey. Nice mellow drinking brew with solid flavor. Scotch ale is right, this fits right in with a cigar and an aged scotch sidecar. Hops are in the background with some earthy pine. Peat smoke, toffee, brown sugar, and scotch.

FEEL: Medium to full bodied, smooth, with a smokey, scotch like aftertaste.

OVERALL: Quite a brew here. Brings out the trademark flavors of the style. I would recommend this brew to dark ale and scotch fans alike.

On-tap at Fat Head's in N. Olmsted, Ohio

Pours a clear brown with a slight haze; off-white head with nice lacing and retention. The aromas are very grainy. Lots of sweet caramel malts with hints of toffee and butterscotch. The flavors seem to really match the nose. The flavors are extremely crisp and refreshing. It's not syrupy or sweet at all. More caramel notes. Not bitter. Mouthfeel is wonderful. It's medium-bodied with active carbonation. It's extremely smooth and fluffy. Alcohol goes unnoticed and it's dangerously drinkable.

Very nice Scotch Ale. It's not flashy, just well executed and stays true to style. It's very fun to drink.
