Thankfully, this is not the smoke bomb the name might lead you to anticipate. There's some cocoa and milk chocolate, and the smoke seems mainly contributed by the chili peppers that give a slightly stinging chipotle character.

Well, this beer was a pleasant surprise. Had it on tap at a local Bloomington, IN bar. Here goes:
A: Pours pitch black with a dark, chocolatey head. Thick large, thick, and creamy. Looks good.
S: Chocolate, milky coffee, cinnamon, ancho chili peppers, etc. Smells both chocolatey and spicy.
T: Taste isn't as refined as the smell, but it's still good. Very sweet cinnamon and pepper spice mixed with subtle dark malt. Malt was a little too subdued for me, although I do detect both chocolate and coffee.
F: Good. Little light for the style, though.
O: Good beer. Would definitely have again, especially at the $5.00 I got it for at the bar.

Poured from a growler into a pint glass
A: Pitch black with a 1/2-finger head
S: Chocolate, roasted malt and a distinct chipotle pepper note
T: Quite rich with a nice smoky/pepper note along with rich malts, cocoa powder+chocolate and a bit of caramel
M: Medium+ bodied, a bit bitter with a pleasant smoked pepper bite - not spicy but noticeable
O: The taste is the best part, the rest is solid but doesn't add to over 4. That being said, the flavors are very complex and layered making this a very enjoyable beer

Founder's, Fathead, and Devil's Backbone collaboration, World of Beer writes,"This Imperial Smoked Porter has a rich, chocolate aroma and flavor, with Ancho and chipotle peppers giving a slight pepper tingle." Very good smoked porter, while not too heavy-handed on the smoke-flavor. Malts and roastiness shine through while the flavor only hints at smokiness.

Dark velvet black with no head. Sweetish burnt vanilla scent. Amazing smokey coffe vanilla toasted nut malt taste. Smooth up fromt with some latent carbonation out back. Booze is masked well. Delicious beer alltogether. Really good.

Enjoyed form the growler via Jungle Jim's. This porter pours a near pitch black with a nice head of tan foam that dissipates to a thin layer, a thick ring, and light lacing. Nose of smoke, light coffee, cocoa, and black strap molasses. Flavors surpass the nose with moderate smoke and sweet cocoa up front, a strong coffee flavor comes through on the back mingling with strong black strap molasses and a hop bitterness that rounds it all together nicely. Smooth and lightly creamy mouth feel has moderate carbonation and finishes lightly dry. While I am not a fan of smoke style brews this is nice and complex, especially with so warmth versus ice cold. Excellent brew from a great brewery.
Cheers
