Had on tap at Fat Heads. Review from notes.

A: Pours a clear copper color with a small off-white head on top, not much head retention, leaving a ring around the top with small amounts of lacing forming.

S: A nice blend of pumpkin and spices, some cinnamon, nutmeg, and a little bit of clove.

T: Nice and spicy, some cloves, ginger, and cinnamon mixed with some caramel, and a little bready malt.

M: Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation.

O: A solid pumpkin beer. Had it side by side with their imperial pumpkin and preferred this one.

On tap @ Fat Heads during Cleveland Beer Week.

Phantom Pumpkin is a good color for a pumpkin ale - it has some nice copper clear color with orange and brown highlights. Some nice lace also sticks around when the little head dissapates. Good looking beer but nothing exceptional.

The smell is nice as well, with ginger leading the way and letting some cinnamon and nutmeg follow. A touch of sweet malt rounds out a good nose, but more expression from the non-ginger contingent would be most appreciated.

The taste is also full of ginger, caramelized sweet malt, and the miscellanious other spices. They come together well, but I'd like a bit more nutmeg to make this really sing with festivity.

The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with sparkling carbonation. Almost too much carbonation for me. But it is a drinkable beer by all means. This really reminded me of Elysian's Night Owl, however, I think the spices and creamier carbonation on Night Owl make it a superior beer. This is for the ale drinker taking a one-night exploration into pumpkin beers and is not for the more adventurous consumer of beers that make you say "boo".

Live review. This from notes at the brewery:
Like the Phantom, your beer will be gone quickly. Perfectly balanced spices, (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice), make this pumpkin ale extremely drinkable. If that's not ghoulish enough there are caramelized pumpkins and brown sugar in this ale to make it a real Halloween treat. Trick or Treat? You will find out when your beer is gone.

A Poured from tap into a clean, clear glass. Body is a bit boring, a translucent orange but the a creamy, very light brown. 3.5

S A bit distant smell of pumpking (imagine that!) and some spices. Nothing too inspiring or unique here. 3.0

T Well the pumpkin is there and I actually like the spice profile of the cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and allspice and there is a nice sweetness that helps too. Taste is slightly better than average.

M Thin for my taste but nothing terrible. 2.5

D Fair to good. 3.5
