Inspired by the smoked beers (Rauchbier) of Bamberg, Germany, amped into this century with the super-human abilities of our Head Master Brewer. A smoky aroma with underlying sweet caramel malt. Flavor is smoke at first but gives way to a delicious malty goodness. Smooth with a light hop bitterness. Bavarian monks would have chanted relentlessly as they became one with this brew... "I’ll be bock!"

Having this beer on tap at the Sachsenheim. Served in a stein mug, this beer draws a clear, medium to dark amber color with a nice white head that’s about an inch thick when first drawn and served. Had eventually settled to a medium size ring lighting the inside of the glass at the beers surface along with some tiny spots of film layer surface foam. Not much lacing at all to speak up though, in fact barely any. Aromas of some toasted, bready, caramel malts along with some smoky notes and a hint some yeasty esters. A very similar flavor profile, with some toasted, bready, caramel malt sweetness and some smoke along with a bit of wheat and a bit of yeast. Also has a flavor that reminds me of fruit jam on toast. It is very subtle, but it works pretty well here. The taste is rounded out with an earthy, very slightly piney hop presence that adds just a hint of bitterness that goes along with the smoke quite nicely indeed. Has a crisp, smooth, slightly creamy, medium bodied mouth feel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish and all of the flavors linger very nicely on my palate in the aftertaste. Nice representation of this style of beer, and worth a try for sure!

This one isn’t too smokey - it is a mild, woodsy flavor, not the liquid smoke vibe you get from some beers. Can’t say anything jumps out as a Bock, the malt gets a little muted by the smoke, but there is very gentle sweetness that does provide a little balance

Red edges with a dark red center, and a large, khaki head.
Smells of sweet heat bbq rub, strawberries, beef jerky, hickory smoke, and Cool Ranch DORITOS.
Tastes of toasted malts, prune, raspberries, faint bacon.
Frothy body.
Yeah, this beer is so confusingly...weird. I kept coming back for more to try to interpret what crazy ass stuff I was experiencing, but in the end, I couldn't finish it. Kohlminator is just really funky.

Taste reminds me of smoked whitefish. Never thought I'd say that about a beer's description, but I suppose that leads on that this beer is heavily smoked. Decent color, decent body. A very interesting smoked beer, but not necessarily a world class beer worthy of telling my friends. I actually quite enjoyed it. I'd try it again, but due to its intrigue more than its sensationalism.

Pours a clear dark amber with a frothy white head that is dense and foamy. Head retention is good as is clarity.
The aroma has smoke and bready lager qualities. Malt sweetness shows up well with some caramel essence.
Taste has smoke, wheat, caramel, and bready yeast. Smoke, caramel, campfire, charred. Tastes like the morning after a campfire with your best friends. Good beer and certainly has the flavor of BBQ meats.
Overall, if you like smoked beer you'll like this. If you don't like smoked beer then you will probably not like this. Worth a try, it's a gorgeous beer for fans of the style.

Appears a bright copper slightly ruby hue with a well formed white head. Aroma brings out layers of smoked meat, my notes mention bacon. Think being around a campfire while cooking smoked meats that's the aromatics. Serious smoked ale not as heavy with the smoke as some of the Bamberg versions, but it's unrelenting smoked meat with a nice bready malt layer, minimal hops are detected here. Mouthfeel the bacon and smoked meat character lingers between sips, medium bodied with ample carbonation. Overall something different nice to see enough smoke in this type of beer, usually American brewers go way too light with the smoke this is intense but enjoyable.

Do not actually know if this is limited or a seasonal - had at the Pittsburgh location over the weekend.
Very nice appeareance as it was a murky brown with good two-finger head that died quick on top of a mostly meaty, smokey aroma, although one could say hints of bread, sweet caramel and spicy hops. I call this a Rauchbier b/c I'm not buying a smokey Bock - while there is a decent sweetness and some hop bite, this medium-boded beer which can be a little full and sticky, is mostly smoke/meaty. Not in a bad way - I enjoy a dry, "harsh" rauchbier now and then to wet the whistle, and I would describe this as a rauchbier on the lighter side. Good beer and worth a try if you like the stlye and you're at Fat Heads.
