We studied psychology, fairy tales, legends, children's stories, the I-Ching and of course, sipping. We gave beat to the revolution. And we wrote down the recipe to this incredible brew in a smoke filled haze. As best we can remember. Pitch black in color, this brew has a very strong chocolate aroma with hints of coffee, dark fruit, and sweet malts. Try a Hippy Sippy and you might try anything...

Hippy Sippy from Fat Head’s. Purchased at Franklin Beer (Franklin, PA) 11/03/25. 12 fl oz can, $ 11.00 (Including tax)/ $ 0.917 fl oz. Reviewed 17/04/25 (Review 3506). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Poorly stamped on bottom rim “???NED ON 2?/??/?2” (Best guess). In reefer at distributor. Stored in at 39 degrees F at home: served at 58.1 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 61.3 degrees F.
Appearance – 4 (Unfiltered)
First pour – Deep Amber (SRM 15), clear.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), opaque. Under direct light, same with large chunks of precipitate visible – these serve as nucleation points. When rear-lite, same with light penetration at the bottom edge - amber.
Head – Average (Maximum height four cm, aggressive center pour), high density, caramel, average retention. It eventually recedes to a 0.3 – 0.4 cm undulating head with a complete rocky cap.
Lacing – Fair. Large hump of tiny to near-microscopic bubbles.
Aroma – 3 – Weak roasted malt. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol.
Flavor – 3 – Begins slightly bitter with weak roasted malt. No yeast, no hops. No alcohol (9.3 % ABV, according to the label). No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Faint gastric warming occurs.
Palate – 4 – Medium: creamy: soft carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.

Final impression and summation: 3.5 Possibly the most flavorless stout I’ve had in a looong time. Sure, there’s some weak roasted malt and I can maybe imagine some char, but I’m not detecting the usual suspects of “dark fruit”, chocolate, or coffee. Looks and feels good, tastes and smells pretty weak. One and done.

12 ounce can, canned on 12/20/23, thanks to Brutaltruth for this brew! Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half frothy tan head. Head retention and lacing are both pretty good. I like the aroma, the brew smells like burnt/charred malt, dark chocolate, dark fruit and some earthiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some dark bread and coffee flavors noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and a bit creamy, easy enough to drink with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, worth picking up if you get the chance!

Nice roast aspect and char with accompanying IBUs. Reminiscent of North coast old rasputin but not quite as great.

Slight crisp deep dark brown froth... Solid retention... Color is a sleek jet black that lets a touch of light leak in around the edges... Nose of roast malts and faint dark chocolate... Perhaps a touch of vanilla as well... On the palate the chocolate and vanilla lead and is then followed by the faint roasted malts... Medium bodied, smooth and sleek... Decent and enjoyable, but doesn't really stick out in any discernible way...

poured from a 12oz can into a levante snifter (both thanks to @braunmeister_1943). this one pours dark brown to lighter black with over a finger of dark khaki colored foam head. big and roasty malts on the nose. also get light chocolate and coffee. taste is roasty coffee, light chocolate, roasted malts and even a touch of pine from the hops. medium-full mouthfeel that hits thick at first but the carbonation thins it out just a bit, actually making it more drinkable than it should be. fairly aggressively hoppy, nice and roasty, and somewhat sessionable at

Very nice pour. Good head. Nice deep dark color.
No noticeable smell.
Very delicious stout. For this style, not bitter at all. Easy to drink.
Smooth.

Overall, a very good beer. Not that much depth, or complexity, but delicious.

12 oz can, undated.

Pours darn near black, kicks up a large and lasting dark mocha cap. A bunch of lacing left on the glass.

Smoky dark grains, chocolate and coffee on the sniff.

Tasty Impy stout, again dark smoky grains, chocolate, coffee, and fudge on the palate. Smooth

Fine “everyday” kinda imperial stout….if that is a thing! Smooth, complex and enjoyable.

Well worth seeking out….tasty brew..

Poured into River Horse goblet: color is solid black, head is tan and presents one inch thick, head dissipates to a ring on the glass with some spotty lacing.

Smell is roast, chocolate, marshmallow, light fruity booziness, earthy hops.

Taste is roast, chocolate, light lactose like creaminess, marshmallow, hint of fruity booziness, earthy hops; flavor is sweeter or creamier than average for the style.

Mouthfeel is low carbonation, moderate/stronger sweetness, moderate bitterness and light lingering bite.

Overall - a very good stout - a fuller/sweeter rendition for the style, leans strong milk stout in a way.

Can into pint glass. Pours a very dark brown with a substantial light tan head. No lacing. Initial impression is dark chocolate, coffee, and smoky/roasted malts. Mouthfeel is substantial - perfect for the style. Finish fades to chocolate and char. Overall, a very enjoyable Imperial Stout.

12oz canned 12/15/22 (3 months ago) poured into a Spiegelau stout glass at fridge temp 9.3% ABV and 50 IBU per can. The beer pours pitch black with no light penetration and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves a web of lacing. The aroma is mild with dark cocoa and earthy hops. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with additional notes of very light smoke, toasted malt and ashy moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good.
