"A sparkling straw colored Getman-Style lager, generously hopped with Saaz & Sterling hops providing a spicy novle hop finish. Think aggressive German IPA."
Served in nonic on tap at the Pittsburgh location. The brew appears a clear light copper color with a firm white head that fades back to a thin film. A full curtain of lace sticks to the glass.
The aroma consists of bready grain mostly that persists with residual sweetness across the back of the nose with a solid grain freshness. Some hints of floral to fruity hops are present. As it warms up, it has that typical sort of nuget sweetness and alcohol combination found in many lagers with a touch of sulfur.
The taste is strikingly sweet with a fresh bready grain character. Faint citrus to grassy hops hardly provide enough bitterness to contrast the upfront assault of residual sweetness. That typical yeasty lager note is present with a mild fruity tone that blends into the noble hop character.
This is a light bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. The sweetness and fresh grain quality lingers in a somewhat unpleasant way in this. It is not as crisp and refreshing as I have come to expect lagers to be. If you go by their description alone, this beer is a failure. Aggressive hops? Hardly. Aggressive residual sweetness that dampers the enjoyment? Absolutely.
