Since there is not great dining in Oroville, that I'm aware, of we stopped in with my mom and wife for a little early moms day lunch. What caught my eye was the brewery of course and the fact they serve game meat.
The beer was OK and being more of a hop head I was surprised to find I liked the Keddie Red, Blonde and Golden over the two IPA's they had. The Keddie is listed as retired on BA but they had it available and my wife and mom enjoyed it. The Stout was way to sweet and to licorice tasting.
The food was good although limited selections. I had the wild boar burger, my wife the beef and mom the wild turkey burger who said they were good. Nothing amazing but good. But what was amazing? The wild Board Bacon. Get this as your side instead of fries, you will not be disappointed. Looking to buy some on line now.

One of the more odd breweries I have ever visited.
Location looks cool upon approach, it's in an old train depot. When you enter and make your way to the "taproom", it looks more like a funky dive bar (and not really in a good way) that is stuck in the 70's or 80's. Really dead on a Monday afternoon.
Quality was decent, I tried a couple of beers that were drinkable, but nothing special at all.
Service was pretty good. The girl that helped us was pleasant, and pretty prompt which is all I usually ask for.
Selection was I believe 8 tap beers, with the usual suspects as far as styles go. (Wheat, Pale, IPA, Stout, etc...) Nothing really interesting.
They had no food, the girl said the kitchen has been closed for awhile, but it's planning to be reopened.
All in all, ok spot, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. Seems like this place could be so much better with more effort though.

I swung in here this past Friday (09-04-2009) around noon for a couple beers and some lunch. I stopped in earlier tonight also, but only to exchange a T-shirt.
Western Pacific Brewing And Dining occupies the old train station in Oroville. The owner has run with this little factoid and made everything within the establishment train-related: the decor, the furniture, the outfits, the logo & merchandise, and even the beer names. I thought it was kinda cool actually; it fits right in with the quaint downtown nearby. A couple of freight trains even rumbled right by while I was enjoying lunch and shook the whole establishment (just a bit).
When I arrived, the only other people in the bar area were a couple of local regulars. From the sounds of it, those are the only kinda people that ever stop in. Being the newcomer, I got asked quite a few questions by the bartender and other patrons. I didn't mind at all, though; they all seemed friendly and sincere.
The couple of beers that I ordered were decent, but they were served in frozen mugs each time. I literally had chunks of ice floating around in my glass. I'm sure I could've asked for a room-temperature glass, but I simply forgot. As for the food, I was pretty disappointed. I paid $9.00 for a BLT w/ avocado that was served on cheap sourdough with only three slices of bacon. It was barely larger than my fist. The sandwich also came with a cafeteria-style salad - straight from the bag.
The bartender and waitress at Western Pacific were both nice enough and quick, but neither one of them knew anything about beer. I found that out when I began talking about the flavor profile of the oatmeal stout and got deer-in-headlights looks from both of them. "Yeah, it's reeeeally good", one of them said after a long pause. On top of that, the conversation was typically a little awkward. Still, each of them were friendly.
The beer selection is definitely limited, however each beer is well-crafted. As of September 7th, Western Pacific only serves five beers: a blonde ale, a red ale, a pale ale, and IPA, and an oatmeal stout. According to the bartender, the brewmaster is working on either a Scotch ale or Scottich ale (she didn't know the difference). That one should be ready around the beginning of October.
This is a pretty lame brewpub, but I might be back again just to help them out. Each time I've been in the place has been near empty. I don't recommend this place, but I suppose it's worth checking out if you'll be in Butte County for an extended stay.

New brewery in Oroville so we went to check them out. It's really cool that it's in the old Western Pacific train station.
Small 7 bbl system with 15 bbl unitanks. 6 beers online when we went:
-Golden Ale 5.1%
-Pale Ale 5.4%
-IPA 6.4%
-Red Ale 5.9%
-Brown Ale 5.0%
-Oatmeal Stout 4.0%
All were pretty solid and fresh. I didn't care for the asprin-like bitterness and the hardness of the water in their beers, but they were tasty and easy to enjoy none the less.
Service is friendly, but not totally knowledgable when it comes to the beer, I guess I'm spoiled. Good people though.
Cons are that the smoking section is a bit too close to the inside bar and you always get a whiff of someone smoking. Not much food for vegetarians, either.
Pros are the fresh beer in clean lines, great sampler and growler prices, and lots of train stuff!
A good place to stop for a break on the road but not a far away destination. Cheers!
