Op-Ale sits in the glass a semi-hazy orange-gold. Its appearance, much like the name, is curious and inviting. The nose combines spice, must, and what reminds me of head-shop incense. Also, there's some dried apricot and apple pie spice. The palate opens up with dried malt, followed by stone fruit flavors. A mild to medium bitterness occupies the finish. This is a really nice, high quality brew.

Sampled at Eetkaffee Brouwershuis in Opwijk (near the brewery)...

Appearance: light brown to copper with a sudsy off-white head leaving stratified (like sedimentary rock) lacing on the glass, lots of bubbles, decent retention

Aroma: minerals, iron, malt, some indescript hops, some clove

Flavor: a slightly toasty and tangy malt profile followed by a light hop bitterness, minerally flavor with a bit of iron, woodsy hop, semi-dry finish, tangy aftertaste

Mouthfeel: medium-light body, tepid carbonation despite bubbly appearance, slightly astringent

Overall Impression: This beer is just OK. Might be better out of the bottle, I don't know. Not so "speciale".

Pour a clear amber color with a creamy light tan head that fades slowly leaving a fair amount of lacing.

Floral sweet smell, some clove, bready and yeast notes. A little lemon zest.

Taste us of lemon peel, slightly peppery, some buttery toffee, and a faint hit of hop bitterness.

Finish is dry and peppery.

Overall not a bad drinking little beer. Good for the normal days when you don't want an extreme beer.

Light amber pour, small white head that goes fast to a thin lace that leaves lots of traces.
Smell of sweet malts and caramel, big clove, sweet red apple, faint apricot and banana, some hints of honey and cane sugar.
A dense maltiness in the taste, with caramel, sugars, grains and rather bready, that's seasoned with citrus peel, some apple and lots of (rather heavy) Belgian spicy yeasts. Herbal notes towards the finish, prickly with some pepper and a mild bitterness, a bit unclean.
Rather heavy bodied, medium carbonation, chewy.
Feels somewhat concentrated, especially looking at a 0.25l bottle. Has some nice flavours but it's very unbalanced.
