Sampled this Beer at the Abbey in St-Gérard where it used to be made a long time ago, where now the Beer is contract-made, and the Abbey is now a hotel/restaurant/expo hall. Very beautiful, and cheap too, for like 70 euros, we got the room, a top notch dinner and a great breakfast the next day. On to the Beer:

Appearance: Very dark brown, almost black, with big, cakey head that went down after a while, but sprang back to life easily after a swirl or two.

Smell: Nice robust alcohol, with some fruitness that I couldn't pinpoint, maybe prunes.

Taste: Has a good caramel sweet and malty start, and a light alcohol finish. Nice roundness to it, went very well with the duck they served me for dinner.

Presentation: out of a brown bottle @ the Kulminator in Antwerp, BE. Date: 26 08 01 / "100%" natural on the label. Note: I also believe this is a contract brewed beer.

Appearance: Near opaque dark brown crowned with a two-finger biege foam head that doesn't go away. Most impressive.

Smell: Musty, dry vinous aroma. Grape skin, black currant and that "older beer/aged beer" aroma.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Dry sweetness to start, followed by a heavy does of fruity grape blended with notes of caramel and toffee. Earthy, leafy, thin herbal character and light spice add depth, while a crisp, sharp carbonation edge scrubs the palate between sips leaving a clean, dry finish.

Notes & Drinkability: Very wine-like, unique and surprising. An absolute delicious treat that would make for an ideal beer to convert wine lovers to the world of better beer.
