A bright, orange beer with a big head that fades after minutes and leaves a fine white foam on top. Medium carbonation.

Smell is peppery with notes of cloves and malt. The clove is strong and a little over the edge for me. There is a mild, noble, grassy hop aroma.

Taste is a nice combination of malt and hops. The malt is a little sulfuric like pilsmalt and there are tastes of light caramalts, giving a dextrinous taste. The hops are grassy and a little earthy, the bitterness is nice and leaves a pretty long aftertaste. The yeast adds a mild fruity taste and unlike the smell, I hardly get any clove in the taste. Mouthfeel is not thin and perfect for this beer, only a bit sticky on the lips.
With all the hops on the label, I was on the wrong foot here, maybe expecting a little too much.

Had this beer at the Affligem stand at the beerfestival in Brussels last weekend. One of the most expensive beers of the festival, 5 euro's (7.5 dollars), so I hoped it would be worth it.... Poured into an original Affligem glass. The beer pours a hazy golden-copper color, with a very large, white fluffy head that stayed long and gradually turned into a nice lacing.

Smell: not a very strong nose, hoppy, yeasty and spicy (pepper)

Taste: Sweet, hoppy, coriander, yeast, clove with a bitter and dry aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: medium-high carbonation. Crispy, easy to drink

Overall: Not a bad beer, but worth 5 euro and being one of the most expensive beers of the festival, certainly not. Still nice to drink though

Bottle Inspection: Notes a date of 25.10.07 (sampled 03.02.07) and 6.8% abv.

Aroma: Yeasty with a light green apple (acetaldehyde) and a light white pepper note.

Appearance: Frothy off white head that lasted and gave a little bit of spotty lace.

Flavor: Light fruitiness, light pepper, just like the aroma. Very mild and clean.

Mouthfeel: Firm carbonation, light body.

Overall Impression: A very easy drinking Belgian. A lawnmower except for the well hidden alcohol. The flavor was light and airy. Enjoyable.
Many thanks to Tim Bierschenker Polk for the rare bottle!

Poured out in a chalice. Blond pale ale colour with a lot of carbonation.
The head developed very rapidly. The huge head leaves big clouded lacing. It collapses from the sides and leaves a plateau in the middle. It lasts long and floats like fresh cream on top.
The sent is sweet and reasonable on hops. Malt and coriander, slight mint.
Taste gives some extra hops, but never near American hops. Well balanced between hops, malt, strong yeast and soft spices. Olive oil in the back.
The mouthfeel is soft and creamy. It’s slips through the mouth like plain water.
Aftertaste gives dry hops, alcohol and malt. It could be described as bitter wet bread.

Not good, not bad.

BB 04-11-06. Nice and very well lasting head and a beautifull deep golden beercollor. Nose is lots of hops and with it probably litle koreander and even less anis. Some maltyness and alcohol in the back tegether with nice esteraome but this one relies on the hops mostly. Also very well noticable in taste as it has good maltyness followed by strong alcohol and bitter aftertaste. Not a bad brew but the combination of lots of malt and lots of sweetish pale malts don't come harmonicly to me. Still something well worth drinking cause of great hopiness that you don't see that often in Belgium. Strange Heiniken doesn't ship this one over to the US as it would be well suited for abroad the ocean.

The beer pours a translucent golden amber color, the head purposeful in size, the color off white and the residual lace a fine cover upon the glass. Mostly malt in the nose, lightly astringent, crisp and clean with the start slightly sweet, lots of malt, the top skinny in feel. Finish is biting in its acidity, the hops perky in their spicy bite, dry lingering aftertaste, drinkable, but not great.
