I liked the Jack the RIPA and generally like Imperial Stouts. The intrigue is high on this beer for various reasons.

A- Pours from the bottle with a very deep brown hue into my tulip. A small tan cap rises up late with impressive bubbles rising through what appears a viscous solution. Decent retention and a few small sheets of lace.

S- Chocolate syrup, the kind you put in milk. It reminds me of Choklat in a way with large sweetness being hinted at in the nose and a massive presence of cocoa. Feels artificial. Hints of toasted, roasty malts and dark fruits. It all seems to fade away after a while leaving the chocolate milk syrup sweets to shine.

T- The initial taste is actually somewhat pleasant with a mix of dark toasted grains and cocoa but as as soon as the liquid leaves my palate things seem to devolve. Table sugar sweetness, artificial chocolate milk syrup, medicinal fruity hints, raisins, roast barley, toffee, brown sugar, all things sweet and hot alcohol. For 10% this really doesn't hide it.

MF- Very slick and oily viscous body that definitely feels like syrup. Carbonation is moderately low and that does not seem to help as the texture is lacking, feels thin despite being viscous. Finishes hot, very hot.

I am all for using extracts and adjuncts to flavor a beer but in this case the cocoa flavor just adds to what is already messy. One of the hottest 10% brews I can think of all whilst being slick as oil and sweet as molasses. Chocolate and Imperial Stouts are two of the best things on this Earth. The aftertaste of this beer does not do them justice.
