Appearance: Opens as a bit of a gusher and like many gushers, once it spews there is not much foaming action left for the glass; so the cloudy honey colored liquid doesn't have much of a cap by the time the second pour rolls around

Smell: Earthy and fruity, with peach, apricot and green banana tones; a hint of spice cake

Taste: Earthy spice cake flavors, up front, with bold stone fruit flavors building into the middle; the spice cake brings a wallop of black pepper, cinnamon and clove and the fruits layer in apricots, peaches and green bananas; after the swallow, there is a lingering honey sweetness that builds into the finish

Mouthfeel: A bit flabby on the tongue, with a heavy mouthfeel and low to moderate carbonation

Overall: A very different but pretty darn interesting beer; I liked it despite some of the issues I mentioned above

Thanks, pacent, for the opportunity

a wonderful feel of a beer with a crispness and nice breathy feel. golden nearly clear pour with consistent bubbles coming up. nose of sugar/yeast esters and a delicate floral. palate is one dimensionally that but as if it was fluffy. not sweet but a hint of different florals and sweetness. rosewater prominent. this is a brisk as a pilsner off the tap and unbelievably well placed. smooth to the end.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #46 (Nov 2010):

The head reaches high and drapes a thick lacing in its wake; cloudy pale-golden color is spot-on. Fresh-cut grass, green bananas, nutty yeast and vague spice show off a unique aroma. Grainy with a yeasty undertone; relatively dry, though the malt tries to stick to the palate. Lemony orange pulp, wildflowers and more of that vague spice push against the grassiness. Some hoppiness here--pleasant bitterness with a leafy linger. An eclectic take on the style, it's drinkable and flavorful even though it jumped outside the box.

On tap at Max's tonight.

The beer pours a slightly hazy, yellow honey color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is pretty impressive in this beer, as I pick up orange honey, sweet ice tea and considerable underlying spice. The flavor profile replicates the nose, though I appreciate the considerable hoppy bitterness I pick up on the finish. The flavor profile is bit lean, but over all this is pretty tasty. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a moderately long, bitter finish. Drinkability is good, with the alcohol well disguised and nicely integrated into the flavor profile.

Nice balance to this beer, though I thought it more akin to a Belgian IPA than a tripel. Either way, this is pretty tasty stuff.

I found this beer to be a great brew with a meal. While I could have enjoyed this beer alone while in the company of friends it really enhanced the steamed mussels in garlic, parlsey and lemon my wife prepared.

A healthy head came from this beer with a fairly predominent lacing on the glass. The beer was flavorful and carried a very good coriander and honey profile. Fruity notes also rose from the nose as well as on the taste buds. Hop note was mild and modest and over-all the alcohol was very mild.

I enjoyed this beer very much and will seek it out for my next steamed mussel pairing with my wife! This is A a keeper for my next dinner party.

Have had this one in the fridge for a few months now - cool, orange paper wrapper draws a lot of "what is THAT in your fridge?" comments.

Pours with a fairly short, white head over one of the clearest golden bodies I've seen in the style. Lots of bubbles sitting in a thick, suspended animation. If nothing else, this one is fun to look at!

Aromas are powerfully citrus-laden. Apricots and peaches dominate, with some spicey Belgian yeast, lemon zest, and a touch of honey bringin' up the rear.

Flavor switches gears slightly to a thick pear sweetness. The peach comes through hard as well, and there is some strange chemical-like spice that I can't put my finger on, presumably from the yeast strain?

Mouthfeel is a little thin for a 8.5% beer - not complaining, mind you. Think it's a nice light level of carbonation for a Tripel.

Drinkability is good - fun aromas and flavors, decent mouthfeel. I actually feel this would be a good gateway tripel for someone who enjoys fruity beers.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a golden yellow with a white head. The aroma is lemons, oranges, Belgian yeast and mixed spices. The flavor is orange and lighter malts with coriander, Belgian yeast and grassy hops. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Reviewed on 05/16/2009. Bottle. Pours a cloudy light orange with a small white head. Aroma of sweet apple and pear, light spices. Flavor is quite similar, spicy upfront with yeast and sweet fruits. Very pleasant and easy drinking. Decent Belgian Strong Ale.

Split a bottle at Tap and Table in Emmaus. I wouldn't call this a tripel, despite what the label says. This beer deviates from the classic spicy flavors. The aroma and initial flavor have a sharp lemon tang, followed by a cocoa sugar cookie note and then mellower Belgian bready malt and a hit of earthy hops. Very tasty, drinkable and interesting. Give it a try.

Appears a hazy, glowing orange with a fluffy white head that slowly fades into a decent sized, puffy marshmellow cap. Streaky bits of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of caramel, apricots, honey, yeasty bread, and a huge amount of ripe peaches that really stands out amongst all other fruity, and spicy aromas.
Taste is of the aromas, again, with honey, dough, apples, and stone fruit pulling through the flavors. There may be a touch of vanilla and pear in the deep background.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, semi-sweet up front, with a smooth, earthy finish.

Kalle pours a lightly hazy orange-accented brass body (about 9 SRM) beneath a short head of creamy white foam that holds fairly well before dropping to a wide collar and whispy surface covering.

The aroma is a touch musty, earthy, mineralish, spicy, vegetal, and subtly tart... think of fresh crushed granite, wet twigs, lemon, mushrooms, green pepper seeds, and potting soil - as well as a thin edge of sweet golden caramel and a mild hint of anise.

The flavor is spicy and earthy and mineralish before a mild lemony tartness pushes up from below. There's a thin cusp of golden caramel and a thin drizzle of honey followed by some apricot and crisp semi-tart apple as it heads into the finish where spiciness bursts forth at the swallow, and mild citrus zest and crushed-granite linger dryly. It's initially reminiscent of honey-suckle, and later on it becomes more pepperish.

In the mouth it's medium-bodied and remarkably smooth with just a delicate bristle from a natural, very-fine-bubbled carbonation that wakens the taste buds.

Absolutely stunning! Really complex and full but oh so subtle with the flavors building slowly on your palate with each sip! A soft and sweet center of golden caramel, honey, and summer fruit is caked in layers of earth, chalk, vegetation and citrus zest that build its complexity and round it into the massively flavorful beer that it is. All the while it stands, readily drinkable. If you're a fan of musty-earthy beers this one's for you!!!

Love the colorful paper wrapping on this one. Pours a clouded orange gold with a very thin creme head in my tulip. Nose seems a bit tight with dough and spices peeking out. Flavor is fairly full. Big dough and some yeasty tones. Spices are definitely there and seem to fill the mouth more than a fair amount. Apricots seem to show more and more as it warms. Feel is slick and smooth on liquid. Lower carbonation. This is a tasty tripel, however I find the spices a bit too much and it's overall intensity detracting from the drinkability. Though it does seem to mellow out over time.
