Wrath of the Czar - Barrel Aged

Wrath of the Czar aged for 8 months in Seagram barrels. Enjoyed at a bottle share with some great folks. One of them just picked this one up at the brewery when it was released earlier in the day. Poured from a bottle (with a cool little Russian hat on the bottle cap) into a small tasting glass. The pour is viscous and black as night with not much head. The nose has big aromas of espresso, dark chocolate, toasted oak, and whiskey.

Full-bodied with a creamy feel and an intense flavor. Lots and lots of char on the palate. Tastes like burnt chocolate cake soaked in bourbon and cocoa. Starts fudgy up front, then the bitter roast and whiskey barrel creep in and ramp up the flavor. I haven't had many beers that deliver as intense a whiskey barrel character as this one. It's not boozy or ozidized, just carries a lot of char, toasted oak, and rich vanilla character. Top notch beer.
