Brasserie Fischer / Fischer Biere d' Alsace “ Trois Houblons Alsaciens”
€4/,25cl on tap @ Academie De La Biere, Strasbourg, FR on 19 September 2021

Notes: Where are the hops? Anyone can make a beer using three hops but what’s the point if you can’t smell them or taste them? - - - Clear amber colored body beneath a 1/4” - 1/2” dense head of white. Very good head retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with apple and very mildly herbal, and grassy hops. The flavor follows with grainy, bready, and gently biscuity rich and sweet malt with the same mildly herbal and grassy hops threaded through. A moderate bitterness balances it and the sweet malt lingers shortly in the finish. Medium bodied and gently crisp with a fine-bubbled, standard carbonation level. In the end this is as decent enough beer but the name is seemingly misleading.

Arras 2019. Clear gold with a moderate head. Mild fruity nose with a hint of hops. Light body with decent crispness. Quite lager-like I thought. Hops were mild.

Poured the 500ml can into my Guinness pint leaving a three inches white head that just faded as I write this.

On the nose. Hoppy, and citrus flavors are overwhelming.

On the palate, following the nose, it’s a fine hoppy IPA with strong citrus aromas which makes for a nice « bittersweet » taste to it. It’s fairly drinkable as well for a 7,2%abv.

Overall, that’s it. Another good new beer to me. Not mind boggling, not world class but still very good all around in my opinion. I could see myself buying this one to an American counterparts visiting me, or trade it for other beers because that’s a worthy one, even more so fresh as we can get here.

Where are the hops? This is supposed to feature three Alsatian hops. The hoppiness is minimal, but there's a lot of sweetness. It's not bad beer but it's going to disappoint if you're expecting hops.

Poured into a 500ml Rex Artus Goblet.

Golden appearance, a touch effervescent and a small foaming head, looks ok.

Aroma is pretty fine, light houblon, with an almost brandy undercurrent.

Taste is good also, very similar to the Leffe Cascade, but with an added malty/almond lingering on the tongue.....quite sweet.

Goes down well, and at 7.2% abv, surprisingly refreshing, caramel seems to kick in the gullet well after quaffing.

Overall, the best I have tasted from the Fischer range, and one I'll be stock piling for winter.
