Re-review of a bottle I had last December that I suspected was off.
I suspected right.
Pours a cloudy amber color. Medium creamy tan head that disappeared rather quickly.
Smells of sweet malt, caramel a bit of butterscotch and smoky peat.
Not as sweet as a lot of Scotch Ales. Good malt flavors, caramel and a bit of tangy fruit. Finishes dry with an acidic hop presence. The earthy, smoky peat really comes through in the flavor and lingers nicely. I liked the subdued sweetness of this.
Medium bodied with a thin tingly mouthfeel. Less creamy and rich than most Scotch Ales.
A little different for the style, but the differences were a nice change of pace. Good drinkability.

Dark brown color. Small head. Aroma is peaty and malty. A medium bodied Scotch ale. Malts are nutty and somewhat sweet. A touch of smoke and peat. Hops are mild and slightly spicy. A mild and very drinkable scotch ale. Well balanced. Its perhaps a little thin tasting, but thats about all. Although it technically adequate, there it really nothing to distinguish this beer in any way from many other. I realize I am nitpicking here as this beer was most probably brewed to advertise their brew it yourself facility and therefore probably was brewed to be a middle of the road beer, and they have done that, but I guess I was hoping for more. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
