Apparently this is back? Kicked up pint glass on tap at the local Kelsey's after a Thursday night volleyball match. Usually Kelsey's is so limited in craft, this was a wondrous surprise. Not sure if this was Luck & Charm, if it was then that review needs an upgrade. Presented as MacLean's Oatmeal Stout.
Appearance - Near black, finger plus of dense long lasting off-white head. Lighting wasn't great so not much else to go on.
Smell - Roasty bits of goodness, suggestions of coffee and molasses with vanilla. Flaked grainy goodness all around. Very inviting.
Taste - Hot damn, this is really good stuff. Rich flavors of roasted grains, flaked oats with chocolate and vanilla deliberations shining through. Starts bitter than turns middling sweet for a moment or too before transitioning to a soft bitter finish.
Mouthfeel - Dense but light, easy drinking, very palate coating and much better than the the burger that went with it. Carbonation was a touch light but pretty good too.
Overall - I can only hope this remains on tap at that Kelsey's. A very tasty oatmeal stout that stacks up with the best in Ontario. Very much worth a try if you can find it anywhere.
