This is technically not a Kölsch, but it does taste like a nicely made lager. With a slightly amber color, it has a refreshing, very slightly fruity, malt taste that balances well with the slight hop presence. Not a bad beer!

A - Brownish amber in color, the beer doesn't quite match it's label's designation and it's fairly hazed, a further departure from the clear, bright pale gold beers of Cologne. The stiff white head leaves it's mark on the glass for a decent looking beer overall.
S - Slight cider notes suggest the tart tannins of green apple skins with honey sweetness drizzled throughout and a lightly toasted white bread finish.
T - Sweet, unfermented malt syrup, honey, and traces of pear juice give Greed a unique, bolder flavor than those of a typical Kölsch which just don't quite meld right.
M - Dancing carbonation is a good start to a Kölsch-style beer but Greed has a fuller, sweeter body that's not conducive to crisp, clean drinkability.
O - Saint Francis' Greed might be a fine American golden ale with fair drinkability but their website claims it's modeled after the Kölsch beers of Germany and a Kölsch this is not. Rambunctious warm fermentation creates a plethora of flavors which shouldn't be there, piling onto the feel, removing crisp cleanliness and supreme refreshment. It's certainly not a bad beer but it's also not a Kölsch.

The brewery claims "Greed" is inspired by Cologne's Kölsch tradition, the label says "golden ale", and the beer itself is dark amber orange. Who knows...
Beer pours the aformentioned dark orange color, a thin layer of foam, but not much. Minor spotty lacing, poor surface coverage and retention.
Aroma is estery and sweet (?), fruity apple and sweet shortbread.
Tastes pretty malty, toasted multigrain with a little apple fruitiness again from the yeast. Medium bodied, mellow carbonation, drinks more like an amber ale. Overall it's average and passable to drink, but it's no Kölsch.
Thanks to Severstad for this one!
