First, here's a quick synopsis of what Black Raven says about this beer. It's a combination of a Scotch Ale soured with lacto since 2013, and a stout soured with lacto and chokecherries since 2012. Blended, you get "1989".
Appearance: dark mahogany, no head. The aroma is fruity. The taste is awesome, and tart. It's really tart, awesomely sour. There's some dark fruit, not much sweetness, and no remaining trace of either the Scotch ale or the stout. The extended aging with lactobacillus has completely transformed the component beers. I don't know if Black Raven deliberately set out to create this beer, or whether this is the fortunate result of an experiment. Whatever, it's excellent.
