The 2023 version of this beer, served on nitro at Beveridge Place. The brewery says it's now 7.3 % ABV, and made with bourbon soaked cocoa nibs, coffee beans, and vanilla beans.
It's a cocoa heavy porter, both in smell and taste. The coffee influence is more subdued, and the bourbon is also sort of background. It's a mild porter, in terms of roasty smell and taste. If you read the ingredient list ... bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, you'll think you're in for a BIG beer. But the real story is that those components are all fairly mild. And the ABV is also understated.
Think of this as a normal porter, with some flavor adjuncts, not as an Imperial Porter that's over the top.
That said, it's pretty good. It's apparently only released in November each year, to mark the November 5 anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot in England. So look for it in the next few weeks.

On tap at the Brewpub
A - Poure a deep dark brown, almost black with a silky smooth dark tan creamy head that lasts through the whole glass.
S - A little nutty and Roasty. Some booze, but not a whole lot.
T - Taste is more nutty and chocolate with more bourbon and booze coming out. Blended pretty well and tastes pretty light.
D - Nitro, so smooth but a bit thin for me.
O - Not the best porter, but defiantly unique and easy drinking. I was glad to try it.
