Served in straight pint glass. Poured a clean, clear dark red, bordering on brown, color with 3/4 inch of khaki colored head that had good retention and lace.
The aroma featured some sharp hops upfront and they were built on a solid malt base. There was just a bit of an alcohol note that detracted a bit. The flavor profile was pretty similar, although the beer was a bit sweeter than the scent had led me to expect, the hops and malt countered each other nicely. despite the noticeable alcohol bite, the beer finished cleanly.
The body was pretty good, full and smooth. Drinkability was pretty good for 7+% brew, I could see having a couple in a row. Overall, a good beer that's worth your time if you see it. Another fine job from the crew at Black Raven.

A--A dark redish-brown/golden hue with a small, thin head...good lacing
S--Sweet, malty, carmely with a faint smell of hoppiness.
T--Sweet, strong (alcohol), hoppy, roasted, caramel malt dominates with a hint of chocolate and a slight citrusy hop backbone.
M--Balanced carbonation and a semi-creamy texture. Smooth, yet a strong kick from the alcohol...
O--Although I'm not a huge fan of ambers/reds, I 'like' this one...no complaints, just be mindful of the hi-7%!...chasin' cheers :~)
