Ghost River 1887 IPA commemorates the first year that the famous Memphis Sands Aquifer was tapped. Now over 100 years later, Ghost River Brewing has turned Memphis’ water into an aggressively hopped beer IPA (India Pale Ale) using the bold assertive flavors of American varietal hops.

I love IPAs, and have tried many, This one was very disappointing.

A pine, earthy bitterness that will have drinking so slow, it gets warm.
Taste rating in words: Dip an oiled pinecone in powdered hops and suck it like a lollipop.

Mississippi's finest. Golden in color. Clear in appearance. Drinks lighter. Malty. Not very flavorful. The bottling date makes no sense to me. This could be mad old. Blah.

First had poured from 12-oz. bottle into tulip. It's nice of Ghost River to send us back this very solid IPA brewed with and commemorating the date Memphis began stealing the world's sweetest water from Mississippi. (See http://www.scotusblog.com/case-files/cases/mississippi-v-tennessee/.)

Pours an effervescent gold with 3 fingers of eggshell colored head. Stellar lacing & good head retention
S: Bready, slight lemon notes & little grainyness
T: Grapefruit, pine, breadyness up front, a little lime as well, some mango as well. Pine, aspirin, grapefruit & light breadyness are all there as this warms, some graininess as well. Finishes grapefruitty, grainy & grassy
MF: Light/medium body, soft carbonation; pretty good balance
Drinks easy, but nothing worth getting worked up about. Might try it on draft or if I know I have a super fresh bottle
