A favorite since my first days in LA... great deep maroon walls and rotating artwork set the (slightly too loud) mood. Sleak, refined, and a bit hip (both hipsters and the occasional star can be found)... this is a fine dining restaurant with prices to match (but not as expensive as it gets). And frankly, you're probably going here for the food, not the beer.

That said, what they have is fantastic and suited for the fare.

They have four taps, with three (and sometimes four) reserved for Belgians (Delerium Tremens, St. Bernardus and Chimay in various incarnations are frequent), the last sometimes for a German lager or American craft (Stone shows up here regularly).

When seated, they'll give you two drink lists: one for wine and one just as long for beer. The beer list is again Belgian dominated, some 20+ bottles ranging from trappist (Orval, Rochefort) to abbey (Chimay, St. Bernardus) and others (St. Feuillen, Duvel), then a handful of French Biere de Gardes, and solid (6+ bottles apiece) German (both lagers and weiss beers) and English (Samuel Smith heavy) selections, topped off with a couple Unibroues.

The food is uniformly excellent. A mish-mash of New American Bistro fare, from duck confit and braised short ribs to delicately prepared trout. Superb mussels and a fantastic tuna tartare are highlights from the appetizer menu.

You pay for what you get, but particularly in LA it's not paying more than you should, either.

If you're just looking for a nibble and some high quality Belgians, they do have an attractive black bar that's usually easy to pull a seat up at.
