My friend lives in São Leopoldo, so perhaps it was inevitable I would visit Factory Beer. It was my friend´s friend birthday, and his birthday was held here. It´s located downtown on a street corner, and you´ll need to park on the street. As you enter, you approach a ticket counter where you pay a cover charge to get in R$15. At least there were a couple bands playing.
The inside is darkly lit, with the bar in the shape of a backwards L. The stage is at one corner. There is a bland white walled dining area in another part of the pub, but I stayed in the more lively part of the pub with my friend. There were a lot of people inside dancing to the music.
7-8 taps sit at the bar, but the brewpub only makes two types of beer: cristal pilsen and unfiltered pilsen. Heineken and Bavaria Premium are offered in the bottle, and are the only other choices for beer. I only tried the cristal pilsen....twas okay, but I expected better from a brewpub. Beer is served at a ridiculously cold -2 C, which is the Brazilian way of serving beer. Along with the standard 300 ml draft size, a huge 3.5 liter tank can be bought and be shared with friends.
We were served little hors-d´ourves all night, which were covered by the birthday celebration. They were quite good.
Factory Beer is a very lively place that I enjoyed, though those looking for great beer may want to head to Zaffari Supermarket and pick up some Eisenbahn instead. Kind of like a pub that makes their own beer.
