Dark brown almost black color with a thick light caramel head with excellent retention.
Aroma with notes of licorice, home-made coffee, caramels and a muffled hoppy citrusy. Dry hop is virtually dead.
Flavor is much more interesting than nose. Notes of sweetened coffee, resiny herbal, earthy and citrus hops, cola, spices, caramels, passion fruit juice and charred wood. Dry aftertaste with a long lasting bitterness and roasted note. It does not feel 70 IBUs, but it does feel hoppy.
Light bordering medium body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 7% abv is well hidden.
This is a straight shooter Black IPA. Although its nose was a bit disappointing, this beer was packed with flavors and a rounded and complex bitter profile.
