Growler filled about 8 hours back.
An inky black with a dense, brown head with excellent retention and lmild lacing, this is a solid stout. The nose is excellent. Heavy roast, unsweetened cocoa, creamy oatmeal and a delicate yeasty fruitiness are present. Coffee and complementary earthy hops are also present. There is also a delicate and wonderful floral character present, one thats really enjoyable.
The palate opens with plenty of chocolate and some creamy oatmeal. A little bit of raisin like fruitiness is also present, but really, this is all about the chocolate malt here. Some coffee grounds character is also present. It's actually nice to have a coffee like flavor in a beer without it being derived from coffee for a change, and that's more an indictment of my purchasing habits than what's out there. Hops appear toward the finish with an earthy and minty bite. The yeast does lend a mild fruitiness to the finish, which has a lingering chocolate flavor. Some oatmeal creaminess is present, but this is still a rather dry stout. Medium in body and with a creamy carbonation, this beer is enjoyable. Recommended.
