On tap at 16 tons taphouse. The menu (and online notes) refer to this a Belgian style, india red ale., which makes it kind of tough to find a style to list it under. Anyway...
The beer pours a reddish amber color with pretty good head retention and lacing. On the nose, this really doesn't smell like a Belgian style beer, as I mostly pick up pine, dry citrus and maybe some bread dough. The beer smells as if it will be on the dry side, and in fact it is. The beer is surprisingly dry and hoppy on the palate, and I'm getting no more than touch of Belgian spice. This beer is quite lean as well, and you can tell the abv. is really dialed down in this one. Otherwise, the flavor profile seems to replicate the nose, and the finish is long, very dry and bitter. Mouthfeel is medium bodied at most, and alcohol is well integrated into the flavor profile.
Kind of an unusual beer for Upright, and I'm not sure this is one of their better efforts. A bit more sweetness and spice would have helped this beer out a lot, and while I was glad to have the opportunity to try it, I'm not sure this is a beer I need to try again any time soon.
