Growler picked up from the Beer Junction in West Seattle on 22 May 2015. Tasted 25 May 2015.
Pours a mostly clear, lightly hazy orangey amber, with just the slightest hint of pink. One finger of head, doesn’t last all that long. More like a sour than a saison in that way. Bubbles prickle and pop and disappear.
Smell is sort of light, slightly tart. A little bit of fruit, and a teeny bit of spice, with a faint sour acidic bit. Fruit smells more like blossoms and unripe fruits rather than juicy ready-to-eat.
Taste is a little thin. Very dry, very prickly. Almost like cider in how dry it is. Starts out a bit fruity, though I don’t get the cherries and raspberries prominently. More flowery characteristics. Then dry, tart, and a little astringent.
Feel is amazing. The dryness that’s just okay in the taste is outstanding here. Starts out light-bodied and thin, then comes this fizzy carbonation. Persistent but relatively low-level carb, followed by a quick astringent drying sensation.
I don’t get saison from this beer, I get a delicate fruit sour. I suppose that was the intent. But I also don’t get all that much of the fruit. An interesting beer. Thin and soft, and I want it to be more robust, especially given the components (saison, flavorful fruits).

Growler from the brewery today. This is a riff on the pinot cherry four, where the pits from that beer were left in the barrel and fresh beer was racked on.
Pouring a pinkish rosé (ha!) In color with a thin, white head that falls off to a ring, this looks decent. The nose is bright, tart, fruity and lactic, a blend of wine, stone fruit, yogurt and floral notes. Juicy, mildly jammy, pairing well with the lactic acid, the blend of fruit and sourness is nice.
The palate opens sharp with a lactic bite, driven by soured yogurt and mild sour cherries with a mild cherry pit tannin note. Clean, dry, wheaty and tart, there's a little bit of a bread character present. Funk is moderate and richly so, with a blend of hay, a little spice and some earth. A long, dry finish with a blend of yogurt, cherries and floral wine is present. Absolutely lovely on the palate. Highly recommended.
