The Sole Composition version of the Oregon Native was bottled from a single cask that we felt was a standout from the lot of eight that were originally filled. That cask had the same pinot noir grapes and indigenous yeasts as the others, but showed greater depth of fruit flavor with balanced oak expression. As we've done in the past with a single cask Fantasia release, this beer was bottled and corked still which not only differentiates it from the main batch, but creates a new way to experience the beer by cutting out the bottle conditioning process and its associated changes, allowing aromas and flavors to come through that are somewhat muted otherwise, particularly an earthy nose and an iron note on the palate that ties the Oregon Native to our love of historic beers that truly embody the farmhouse style

Bottle from the brewery.
A clear reddish pink with no head, this beer is still. The nose is a decidedly potent yet refined blend of grapes and the base sour. Earthy, mushroomy, mildly funky, moderately fruity, a touch buttery, moderately oaky, this is really richly layered. Cocoa, decidedly musty grapes with prominent skin tannins. The palate opens with a blend of funk - earth and a little mushroom. There's also a mild sourness, a prominent skin tannin character. There unfortunately isn't sufficient structure to carry the palate, though. Vinous, earthy, moderately brooding, with the earth from the grapes pairing nicely with the must of the base beer. Tannic on the finish. Notes of sherry and vanilla are present as well.. Interesting, but not necessarily better than the regular Oregon Native

375 mL bottle. Pours a clear red with no head. Smells of red grapes. Musty. A little acidic. Wine-like. Tastes oaky. Lots of grapes and red wine. Sharp vinous flavors. Oaky finish. Flat. Medium body. It's intense and the flavor doesn't quite justify it's difficulty to drink.
