Probably my #1 favorite beer as of 1/24/2017. Reliable, great depth and flavor. Perhaps close to a Scottish Ale, but different enough to be unique.

Bottle from the brewery.
An ugly, hazy, murky, dark brown with a beige head that falls off leaving little lacing, this looks a little unappetizing. The nose, though, is pretty solid. Nice fruity port, dark fruit, caramel, toffee, a little whiskey, a mild barrel tartness, some buckwheat honey, dark caramel, jaggery, this is rich and layered. Wet tobacco, fresh leather are also present, especially as the beer warms. The palate opens quite fruity and a little tart with a blend of a biting caramel bittersweet flavor, a rich dark fruit character with dates, brandied raisins, sticky toffee and an ephemeral floral flavor that's so delicate and so wonderful. The mid palate has the boozy flavors with a blend of whiskey, both in a raw alcohol bite as well as toffee and port flavor. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the wonderful integration of the whiskey, the port, the tobacco and the leather here, it's almost Alan Sprints like. Full in body, lightly carbonated, this beer goes well with the pine aroma of a home with a Christmas tree. Impressive.
