Baltic Porter is a style we've always enjoyed but never brewed. A traditionally made example requires plenty of tank time, and we finally had a window open up this fall allowing us to process the beer properly, yielding a classic lager nose and an appetizingly bittersweet flavor mid-palate that rounds out on the finish.

On tap at Upright.
Black with a dark brown head with good retention and lacing, this looks great. The nose is a wonderful, true expression of the style. Fruity, chocolate, coffee, caramel and a wonderfully clean lager yeast character, this is richly layered. The palate opens with a blend of chocolate and coffee with some raisin before the mildly bready, mildly fruity lager yeast character takes over. Long finish, mildly hoppy with an earthy bitterness, cocoa and coffee with a soft carbonation that is perfect for the palate and the heft here. Excellent.
