Juzek 13º is done in the style of Czech tmavé pivo, a dark lager. Unlike German dunkel, these beers are brewed within a broad profile and vary from brewery to brewery, with everything from color, sweetness, and roast level distinguishing one example from the next. Our take highlights the overall smoothness and strong, complex malt flavors found in most tmavé pivo. The finish remains soft but drier than a typical Czech version, making for a highly drinkable beer. Look for the Juzek 13º at Bailey's Taproom, where it will be the Hausbier for most of February and March.

Crowler from Bailey's.
A very dark brown with reddish brown highlights, a dense, light brown head and great retention, this looks solid. The nose is softly roasty with a blend of toasted wheat bread, a mildly charred pils malt sweetness, a soft lemony Saaz hop note and a soft, fruity yeast note. Subtle and wonderful. The palate opens crisp with a firm carbonic bite and lemony hops before a dry, roasty sweetness of toasted bread, a mild sweetness and a mild yeast note take over. Clean, drying, mildly bitter on the finish with a crisp, cracker-like carbonic bite, this beer is refreshing. Delicate and nicely done.
