Pub Ale is a departure from our typically quirky or adventurous one-offs, and simply named because it's a simple beer. Bringing together the flavors of a classic English brown with crystal, willamette, and a new, experimental hop, the Pub Ale hits all the right notes a seasoned beer enthusiast will enjoy - lightly malty, appetizing bitterness, and supreme sessionability thanks to a dry finish.

Hard one to review, as it is not reminiscing of an English proper ESB, but...
This might be right up Grumpy Gassholes alley (my authority on Browns). Upright Brewings Pub Ale claims it's an ESB but drinks more like a brown. Good roasty bite, and a bit sharper feeling than a smooth true English ESB like Fuller's or Wells Bombardier. Darker too. Having said all of this, it's a good beer. One that I'd love to have as a Brown Ale. Cheers.
***Oh shit... Just noticed that the bar I had this at mislabeled it. As an English Brown Ale (as listed per Upright) this changes everything. It's a great robust brown ale. No wonder it didn't strike me as an ESB...

On tap at Grain and Gristle.
A ruddy brown with a light brown head with decent retention and lacing, this looks solid. The nose is toasted wheat bread, mild caramel, a little toffee and some earthy, leafy hops. The palate opens moderately fruity, with a light toast and caramel blend. Solidly made, this beer finishes mildly sweet with a little toffee. Decent.
