Rein Helles Bock was made for the Holiday Ale Fest. A big beer using 100% pils malt and an extended boil, then fermented with two lager yeasts and aged extensively in both stainless steel and a gin barrel, the Rein Helles Bock relies on juniper and other gin notes to provide an appropriate flavor to celebrate the holidays.

On tap at Upright.

A clear golden orange with a dense white head with good retention and lacing this looks solid. The nose is grainy and sweet with honey, caramel, toffee along with a mild gin character. Floral and fragrant with juniper, orange peel and buckwheat. The palate opens boozy, sweet and a little messy. Juniper, orange peel, a mild oak and vanilla note are present. Mild toffee and butterscotch. A little astringent alcohol on the finish. A strange grainy note as well. A little spruce? This probably needs a decade in a bottle.
