Black Walnut Celebration Lager was brewed in collaboration with Holly Amlin, author of the PDXBeerGirl website. This beautifully balanced beer began with a straightforward grist similar to a schwarzbier but with deeper malt character. The addition of hand picked and preserved black walnuts and a bit of Steven Smith Honeybush tea layers the profile with a soft nuttiness and gentle vanilla-like note, yielding a very flavorful yet elegant and easy drinking brew.

On tap at the brewery.
Black with a thin beige head with good retention and lacing. The nose is dark and roasty with cocoa, mild coffee, chicory, a delicious deep walnut with a tea tannin note. The palate opens mildly bitter with dark roast, cocoa, mild chicory, a noticeable walnut bitterness and mild tannin note. A touch floral from the tea with notes of vanilla. Tannins linger and are a strong component of the finish that's mildly watery. Medium light in body and softly carbonated, this is quite excellent. The blend of walnut and tea is delicate and nicely done.
