Barrel Aged Wit was brewed last summer with 100% Skagit Valley Malt of northern WA. Traditional spicing of coriander and bitter orange was supplemented with calendula flowers, a favorite here at Upright. The wit then spent several months in old pinot barrels with Baird Family Orchard apricots before being blended just in time for the brewery’s tenth anniversary.

Crowler from the brewery.
A clear, glowing golden orange with a dense white head that falls off rapidly leaving little lacing, this looks great. The nose opens with the base beer, with coriander, orange peel and wheat in that order before fresh, fleshy apricots come thru. Next is a delicate, fruity vinous note from the pinot noir casks. Everything is very harmonious here, with the light solvent notes from the apricot pits complementing the delicately spicy earthy funk. The palate opens tart and funky with lactic, mildly yogurt, appropriately priming my taste buds for what's next. Citrus and coriander, bright and clean parry with apricot and apricot pit tannins. Both ripe, fragrant vanilla rich apricots and sour, semi ripe apricot character is present. A delicate grape note with light fruit from the pinot casks follows before a long, tart finish with lingering apricot and lactic sourness. Just a hair light on the palate, especially in the mid palate, though that's understandable given the lower ABV. very well structured.
