Jet black with a dense, brown head with good retention and lacing this looks great. The nose is really old school with a big, roasty bitterness, a solid licorice and anise character, delicately fruity yeast and a big, black patent like malt bitterness, bordering on ashy but well balanced by the yeast. Rich, creamy medium body, bitter and roasty with pine hops working nicely with the licorice and aggressive malt bitterness. Light buckwheat notes. Bitter, roasty on the finish.
