750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Big Bottom Whiskey #1. Bottle #38 of 114.

Appearance - Pours with a minimal head and a decent off white collar. Wispy surface.

Smell - Even less barrel than Big Bottom #2. Bright grapefruit. Caramel. Distinct barleywine aroma.

Taste - Grapefruit. Hops come through on this one. Caramely. Slight whiskey flavor. Nice vanilla and oak though.

Mouthfeel - Getting some palate fatigue here, but it's still a phenomenal barleywine. Just a hint of barrel.

Got this for Rutager a couple years back. Cheers, man!

From a 750 into a snifter
Bottle 81 of 114
Single cask from big bottom whisky

APPEARANCE: Pours a two finger, thicker looking, creamy, light beige head with good retention. Opaque maroon redish-brown with no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a full cap and coats the sides of the glass with lacing. A splotchy wisp remains leaving touches of lacing down the glass as it empties. Good looking.

SMELL: Big, huge nose of bourbon, oak, toffee and butterscotch, vanilla cream and milk chocolate with candy sugars and alcohol. Big and bold. Enticing.

TASTE: Alcohol, bourbon, toffee, butterscotch and vanilla up front. Flavorful and boozy. Big finish of whisky, oak, vanilla, toffee and butterscotch, some milk chocolate and candy sugar lingers on the palate. Flavorful and boozy with lots of nice whisky barrel character.

PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Smooth, soft and silky on the palate, goes down smooth with no burn and finishes mouth-coating. Some decent heat lingers.

OVERALL: This is excellent. Has aged softly and is really nice at this point. The nose is a little more impressive than the flavors but this is a minor point. Delicious and decadent, with plenty of bold aromas and flavors and a smooth, creamy feel to support it all. Well worth checking out and if you still have one of the 114 bottle somewhere, this is the time to crack it open. Delectable. Thanks again, Rutager!

Thanks to JustXBeer for sharing this one at jmgrub's tasting.

Bottle # 63/114.

Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, and whiskey aromas. Taste is much the same with brown sugar and whiskey flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of woody and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice balance between the wood and whiskey aspects.

Bottle #84/114

This baby is dark, pruney with a near quilt of amber suds. smells boozey, some oak, alcohol, vitamins, and some medicinal character with lots of sweet caramel malts and sugary booze. Flavor is alcohol, calcium and vitamin C flavors, some candied sugars, some oak and extremely toasted malts. Medium on full bodied with a moderate carb and off dry finish. Okay beer, bet it would have been better suited with a few months more in the bottle.

Bottle 93/114

A: Poured a murky cola-brown color with a nice khaki head which left a nice cap momentarily. After a few moments it falls flat, looks murky as heck but delicous as heck

S: Big Earthiness, light green-funk thing going on, some underlying bourbon, Hints of toffee and dark fruits

T: Initial taste has some barrel funk upfront with dark fruits, Earthiness, chocolate, toffee. The whiskey notes are present but very subtle and in check. The whiskey flavor leads me to believe the cask used was very old. A little booze sting, candy sweetness, light funk. Sweet and dry on the end with some heat

M: Medium-full bodied, lower on the carbonation, filling and rather decadent.

O: Very good but the Eastside Distilling is my top dog.
