Bistro -bal fest 2010.

Medium dirt brown color with a small but lasting light tan head. The aroma is chocolate, nuts, oak, vanilla, and bourbon. The flavor is pretty nice, a little sweet but not too much, with a good nutty and cocoaish brown ale base and a not too intense -bal character lending oak, vanilla, and slight fruity notes. Body is medium and the carbonation is on the softer side. A pleasant surprise actually, as this was pretty good after I didn’t expect much.

Sampled 11/13/2010 at -bal fest 2010. No info given on barrel type, age, abv, or anything other than the name.

Pours dark brown, hazy, tan head, not much in the way of retention but some lacing present.

Aroma is roasty, mild whiskey, caramel, with some booze and oak.

Flavor is roasty like a porter or stout, very malty with lots of caramel like an Old Ale, and bitter like, well like a bitter beer. A decent amount of booze too. Some whiskey presence again but its not clear if that is some other kind of liquor mixing with the maltiness of this beer. I'm a bit confused.

Body is medium, CO2 is on the high side for a semi strong beer. Drinkability is there.

Update: I see on Ratebeer a Leroy Brown which is classified as a Porter. Makes sense. Maybe B.B. is Bourbon Barrel? Who knows.
