750ml cork and caged bottle from the February 2016 release. Served in a snifter glass.
Pours a dark cola brown, nearly black body, one finger offwhite head with short retention time and no lacing. Looks to me like it is fairly different than the base porter, but I can only go off memory here. Smells of rich cocoa and chocolate, lighter bourbon sweetness, less of the coffee and a little more of the vanilla shines through here. Overall smells on the sweeter side. Flavour is similar, fair amount of molasses, cocoa and chocolate earthiness and sweetness, less of the coffee which is saying a fair amount given how much the base porter brings out the coffee. Light vanilla in the background which is really more complementary than anything else. Milk chocolate and bourbon on the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, not as full as expected but fair carbonation, smooth without heat. A nice barrel aged take on a classic, and it dialed back the coffee which works well here.
