On-tap at the Temecula location, on to the beer:

Coffee Sculpin gives the original a robust kick. The roasted coffee aroma also adds spicy and fruity aspects to the beer. The beer tastes like one part Sculpin and two parts coffee. It's a little tropical, with good roasty points that aren't astringent, yet the beer is still fun to drink. It doesn't hit the same note as the original, but the coffee sure veers your palate into something different from the plain high hopped and fruity IPA's out there.

On tap at The Federal Bar in North Hollywood, CA.

Pours a hazy golden-orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, earth, and very subtle coffee aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, grapefruit juice, earth, and very subtle coffee flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a coffee addition that is very subtle and adds more earthy characteristics than coffee ones.

Serving type: on tap.
